Business Citizen of the Year: Barbara Hunt Nazari – Ludwig’s Fine Wine & Spirits

For nearly two decades, Barbara Hunt Nazari has been a champion of San Anselmo, helping preserve the town’s unique character while contributing to its growth and vitality. Since joining Ludwig’s Fine Wine & Spirits in 2007 alongside her partner, Magid Nazari, and his father, Mohammad, she has played an important role in guiding the family business through changing economic conditions, evolving consumer trends, and the challenges faced by a historic downtown business district. Family-owned and operated by the Nazari family since 1977, Ludwig’s has been a cornerstone of the San Anselmo community, earning a reputation for exceptional service, deep product knowledge, and a commitment to fostering lasting relationships with customers and neighbors alike.

A longtime community advocate, Barbara arrived in Marin County from a small Colorado mountain town where she was actively involved with nonprofit and civic organizations. Inspired by San Anselmo’s resilience following the devastating 2005 flood, she embraced opportunities to support the town’s recovery and continued revitalization.

In 2023, Barbara partnered with the San Anselmo Chamber of Commerce and Nancy Altman—a chamber member and co-founder of the San Anselmo Beautification Committee—to launch the inaugural San Anselmo Sip & Stroll, a beloved downtown shopping and wine tasting event.. In its fourth year, the event has become a valued tradition, drawing residents and visitors into local shops and restaurants while showcasing the vibrant business community that makes San Anselmo unique.

Barbara’s commitment to giving back extends beyond event planning. Under the Nazari family’s stewardship, Ludwig’s has long supported local schools, nonprofits, charitable auctions, community events, concerts, and fundraisers. Through her leadership and service, Barbara continues a decades-long family tradition of investing in the people and organizations that strengthen the community.

Known for her warmth, generosity, and enthusiasm for connecting with others—both two-legged and four-legged—Barbara is a familiar and welcoming presence in downtown San Anselmo.

Barbara Nazari is honored as Bank of Marin’s 2026 Spirit of Marin Business Citizen of the Year for her dedication to supporting local businesses, fostering community connections, and helping ensure the long-term vitality of downtown San Anselmo.

Small Business of the year: Matthew Boussina – Taco Jane’s

For nearly three decades, Taco Jane’s Restaurant and Bar has been bringing people together through great food, warm hospitality, and a deep commitment to community. As the restaurant celebrates its 28^th year, founder Matthew Boussina remains guided by the same philosophy that inspired him to open its doors in 1998: creating a welcoming place where friends, families, and neighbors can connect and feel at home.

Born into a family of restaurateurs, Matthew grew up in the restaurant business, learning firsthand that success is about more than serving memorable meals—it’s about creating an atmosphere where people feel valued and welcomed. After working his way through many aspects of the industry, the Redwood High School graduate opened Taco Jane’s, naming the restaurant in honor of his mother.

Over the years, Taco Jane’s has become a beloved local institution known for its regional Mexican cuisine, signature dishes, and relaxed vacation atmosphere. More importantly, it has become a gathering place where generations of its patrons have celebrated milestones, shared meals, and created lasting memories.

Matthew’s commitment to community extends far beyond the restaurant’s walls. A longtime supporter of local schools, nonprofits, charitable organizations, and community events, he has consistently given back to the town that has supported him. His contributions include founding San Anselmo’s Día de los Muertos celebration, a cultural celebration that includes an “ofrenda” (altar) and festivities which has brought residents together for nearly a decade. Whether through sponsorships, donations, volunteerism, or simply lending a helping hand, Matthew approaches community service with generosity, gratitude, and heart.

Taco Jane’s is recognized as Bank of Marin’s 2026 Spirit of Marin Small Business of the Year for its enduring commitment to community, its support of local causes, and its role in bringing people together for nearly three decades.
